rand

Random number generation for Rust.

What it is

rand provides a suite of random number generators, probability distributions, and sampling utilities. It includes cryptographically-appropriate sources via rand_core and fast non-cryptographic generators. Common usage: thread_rng().gen(), random(), and distributions like Uniform and Normal.

Why it is commonly used

Used wherever randomness is needed: simulations, games, testing, shuffling, sampling, UUID generation, and seeding cryptographic material. rand_core defines the RNG trait interface that the broader ecosystem builds on.
